Does anyone cook after drinking?
Does anyone use a chip pan?
Has your oven, grill, microwave or extractor fan got a build-up of fat, oil or grease?
Is your toaster or kettle under a kitchen wall cupboard or shelf?

3Smoking safely

Does anyone in your home smoke?
Does anyone smoke in bed?

4Electrical Safety

Do you switch off electrical items and plugs before going to bed?
Do you charge mobile phones, tablets, laptops, e-cigarettes or leave air fresheners in overnight or when you are out of the house?
Do you leave the washing machine, tumble dryer or dish washer on overnight or when you are out of the house?
Do you use extension leads?

5Heating your Home Safely

Do you have a fan, ceramic, gas or paraffin heater?
Do you dry clothes on or in front of heaters or in front of an open fire?
Do you use a wood burner or open coal fire?
Do you get your chimney swept regularly?

6Using Candles Safely

Do you use scented candles, oil burners or incense sticks?

7Do you do a Bedtime Check?

Do you have an escape plan, so that everyone in the house knows what to do if the smoke alarm goes off during the night? Are hallways, stairs and landings kept clear enough to allow safe and easy escape? Would people in your home be able to escape through all exit doors and without having to search for a key?

8If there’s a Fire do you have an escape plan?

Does anyone have mobility difficulties and would anyone need assistance to leave the home in the event of a fire?
Does anyone have a mental health illness and would anyone need assistance to leave the home in the event of a fire?
Does anyone take medication that would prevent them from hearing a smoke alarm?
Does anyone have a hearing impairment that would prevent them from being woken by a smoke alarm?
Does anyone have a visual impairment and would be unable to escape in the event of a fire?
Does anyone consume alcohol or use social drugs that would prevent them from hearing a smoke alarm?

9People in your Home

Do you live alone?
Is anyone in your home under 5?
Is anyone in your home over 65?
Does anyone at the property use oxygen at home (for example for medical purposes)?
