The frontline services provided by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Operational Staff are supported by a number of teams, which fulfil administrative and technical roles. Operational and Corporate Staff work closely together to provide a high level of service for the communities of South Wales.

Salary

Corporate staff will be appointed at the minimum incremental point of the agreed salary grade for the post. Progression within the grade is by annual increments.

If you have applied for a part-time post, your salary will be pro rata. Therefore, you will receive a proportion of the full salary, corresponding to the hours you work.

Salaries are paid monthly, by Direct Bank Credit Transfer, on the 15th day of the month.

Hours of Work

For Corporate Staff, the full working week is 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. A flexi-time scheme is in operation for the majority of posts and is run in conjunction with business requirements.

Probation

New employees are subject to the satisfactory completion of a six month probation period. During this period, you will be expected to establish your suitability for the post.

Holidays

Annual leave entitlement is dependent upon length of service (see below):

  • Up to 5 years continuous service = 25 days
  • 5+ years continuous service = 29 days
  • 10+ years continuous service = 32 days
  • 15+ years continuous service = 34 days

In addition to annual leave, you are entitled to eight statutory holidays per year. Leave entitlement for part-time employees is calculated on a pro-rata basis.
