Volunteers’ Week 2022: A time to say thanks

Volunteers’ Week (1 – 7 June 2022) is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service will be using this time to say thanks to all of our hard-working and dedicated volunteers for helping us keep the communities of South Wales safe.

This year’s Volunteers’ Week is taking place during the ‘Month of Community’, bringing together organisations with a range of events designed to encourage us all to think about and join in with activities happening in our local communities.

The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering.

Volunteer Coordinator for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Michelle Turner, said:

“We have a fantastic group of 27 volunteers who are keen to get involved and bring a great mix of different skills and talents to the Service. Their most common activity is to support the promotion and delivery of home and road safety messages and participation in local engagement events and initiatives.  Some are also able to transport various support vehicles to and from community events, and others assist during Firefighter recruitment and assessment days.

The majority of our volunteering activities were put on pause during the pandemic, but we are now starting to see the green-shoots of community events returning, and our volunteers are itching to get involved again!”

We want to recognise all of those who have continued delivering vital work as volunteers over the past 12 months and those who usually volunteer, but have not been able to because of the pandemic. We will be using this opportunity to send a heartfelt ‘Thank You’ to our volunteers for sticking by us while activity has been on hold, and to look forward to a positive year of volunteering.  Keep an eye on our social media pages for more information!

Join us this year to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make and say thank you!
