United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) Welsh Regional Extrication Challenge 2024

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service hosted the annual UKRO Welsh Regional Extrication, Trauma and Rope challenge on Saturday 27th April at its Cardiff Gate Training and Development Centre.

Teams from the three Welsh fire and rescue services competed for the top spot in each category, despite the deluge of April showers, with South Wales represented by Bridgend, Porthcawl, and the ‘Dragons’, along with the rope team, and its four trauma teams.

The competition was stiff, with the challenge seeing 4 rope teams, 9 extrication teams, and 10 trauma teams competing in their respective categories.

Trauma workshops were also provided by AN Taurus, Sim Bodies, and CAS straps to aid learning, whilst the day itself was supported by TESLA and who provided electrical vehicle workshops.

The trauma challenge saw Nathan Moyle and Rob Buckley (Cardiff Central trauma team) share first place with Beth Barton and Tia Magan, whilst second place went to Jade Blackmore and Nick Jones of Ely, with Oliver Roberts and Corey Elkins, also of Ely, taking fourth place.

  • SWFRS rope team took 1st place overall
  • Malpas Blue Watch took part in the CPR challenge, winning took first place
  • Extrication saw Bridgend take first place, Porthcawl second, Dragons third, and North Wales fourth.

Overall Extrication:

3rd Hereford & Worchester

4th Greater Manchester
