Make your home safer by registering your appliances

As part of the Fire Kills Campaign, this Register My Appliance Week (from the 17 to 21 January 2022) South Wales Fire and Rescue Service are urging the public to register their appliances so that they can be notified of product recalls or if a safety repair is ever needed.

We all rely a lot on our fridges, washing machines and microwaves for making our busy lives easier, but would your appliance manufacturer know which machines you have and how to contact you if a fault came to light with your model?

For some 100 million appliances, the answer is no.

This could easily be remedied by people taking a few minutes to register your much-loved appliances.

According to government estimates, we are now running more than 212 million essential appliances to cook, wash clothes and dishes, clean floors and store our food.  Yet official research also found that almost half of us have never registered a product, leaving millions of machines untraceable.

It only takes a few minutes to register your much-loved appliances and make your home a much safer place. Register your machines at registermyappliance.org.uk.

Head of Risk Reduction for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Jason Evans said:

“As we all aim to keep our appliances running efficiently for many years, maintenance and registration of machines becomes increasingly important.  Whether we found the appliances in our homes when we moved in, inherited them from family or simply installed and forgot about them – we should never take the safety of our homes for granted. Registration is easy, even in these circumstances, and the process can even be completed without a receipt or knowing exactly when the appliance was first purchased.”
