Firefighters extinguish multi-storey fire in Pontypridd

Last night (31 May 2022) multiple crews attended the scene of a large, well-developed commercial fire on Catherine Street in Pontypridd.

The fire affected the roof of a five-storey building and crews worked alongside emergency service colleagues to secure the scene and set up safety cordons.

Firefighters used specialist equipment, including an aerial ladder platform, hose reel jets and breathing apparatus, to tackle the fire.

After gaining access to the building, crews set up a dry riser, a system of pipe work running up through the building, allowing easy access to water from each individual floor of the building.

Firefighters contained the fire and utilised a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots. The fire has since been extinguished and a stop message was received at approximately 10:17pm.
