Supporting our communities and championing diversity at Pride Cymru 2025
Members of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) were proud to take part in Pride Cymru 2025, standing alongside our LGBTQ+ community to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and equality this weekend.
Held in the heart of Cardiff, Pride Cymru is Wales’ largest celebration of identity and progress, bringing together over 50,000 people. SWFRS is honoured to be part of this vibrant and inspiring event — a powerful reminder of the importance of community, respect, and acting with integrity.
Representing SWFRS were over 30 colleagues from across the Service—including firefighters, control room staff, corporate teams, and senior leadership—who marched in the parade, offered valuable fire safety advice, recruitment information, and proudly showcased our commitment to supporting all members of our communities.
Our presence at Pride Cymru is an important part of our ongoing work to build a workplace that is inclusive, respectful, and reflective of the diverse communities we serve. It is a meaningful opportunity to connect, listen, and continue shaping a culture where everyone feels they belong.
It reflects our commitment to living our values and supports the goals of our Diversity, Inclusion, Cohesion, and Equity (DICE) aim within our change and transformation project. We aim to build a fair, inclusive, and equitable culture across SWFRS, one that embraces diversity, empowers our workforce, and drives meaningful progress in representation and equity.
Chief Fire Officer, Fin Monahan attended Pride and emphasised the importance of these events:
“It is important that we demonstrate our commitment to respect, inclusion, and equality for everyone across all our communities. Attending Pride is just one of the ways we show that we stand with our LGBTQ+ colleagues and the wider community, celebrating diversity and ensuring everyone feels seen, valued, and safe.”
Commissioner Kirsty Williams also commented:
“It was a pleasure to join colleagues at Pride Cymru and celebrate the diversity that strengthens our communities. Supporting events like this shows our shared commitment to inclusion and progress.”
DICE Business Partner, Matthew Collins highlighted the importance of visible support:
“Being part of Pride Cymru is a key part of showing our support and allyship for LGBTQ+ colleagues and the wider community. It is a visible reminder that inclusion isn’t just a value we speak about — it is something we live and actively promote across the Service.”
As a Service, we are passionate about protecting the 1.5 million people across South Wales and remain dedicated to promoting equality and embracing diversity in all that we do. You can read more about who we are in our new strategy here.
