Passing of former South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority Chair, Derek Rees

It is with profound sadness that we share the news that Mr Derek Rees, the Former Chair of South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority, passed away on Thursday 21 July 2022. 

Derek was the Chair of South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority from 1998 to 2008. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends and former colleagues.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer, Huw Jakeway, said:

“Derek Rees served as Chair to South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority for over a decade. He was resolute in his support for the Service and always ensured personnel had the best kit, equipment and working conditions. Derek was the Chair of the Authority in its formative years. He set the standard and foundation of good governance and scrutiny.

“My thoughts are with Derek’s family and friends at this sad and difficult time, and I would also like to pay my respect to Derek for his long and loyal service to the communities of South Wales.”
