International Women’s Day 2020

International Women’s Day (IWD) is about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action and has been occurring for well over a century, continuing to grow from strength to strength. Throughout history, women have collaborated and led purposeful action to redress inequality in the hope of a better future not only for themselves, but for their families and communities. Women have been achieving this not only through bold, well-documented action but also through humble resistance that never made it into the history books. Women have united for equality and achievement forever.

IWD is also a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. 2020 is a monumental year for women’s rights as it marks 25 years since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action was passed. 25 year ago governments made a promise to women and girls around the world and committed to tackling gender inequality and advancing women’s rights.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service as a progressive service, in support of the values that guide International Women’s Day including hope, equality and appreciation, are continuing to place great importance on helping to create a gender equal world.  As part of sharing this positive message, please take a look at our video supporting the campaign and share with colleagues and friends.
