Tonypandy Project 

The Tonypandy Project is part of a series of new prevention projects which will be identifying ‘hotspot areas’  throughout South Wales.

 The aims of  such projects are:

  •  To identify a number of different groups:
    • Young People aged 11-17
    • Young People aged 10-11 (Transition into secondary school)
    • Young Mums and Toddlers
  • To offer a number of workshops covering a variety of topics
  • Involve/Encourage Partnership working
  • Liaise with local Station
  • Reduce secondary fires in surrounding area

The Tonypandy Project  will include issue based workshops presented by the Arson Rap Project, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to an identified young person/s from the FIS team as interaction with young mums and toddlers from Community Safety, Early Years.  Tonypandy Station will also be interacting with the young people on a regular basis.  The Tonypandy Project also involves the ‘Stick It’ Project, delivered by the YSS (Youth Support Services) Team (please see ‘Stick It’ section). 

Local partners involved in the project are:

  • Valleys Kids
  • Communities First
  • South Wales Police
  • The Ark Project
  • 7 local Primary Schools
  • E3 Project

The project is run over approximately 8 weeks with after school and evening workshops.

The workshop will be run in either:

  • Tonypandy Community College
  • The Ark Centre
  • The Soar Centre
  • Tonypandy Station

The Tonypandy Project, and others alike, are being provided to educate and inform young people and targeted groups on home safety and the danger of arson, car crime and anti-social behaviour.  It aims to integrate young people into positive local activities, increase partnership working in the area and reduce secondary fires in the process.

The Tonypandy project is inclusive to all and offers a vast amount of information.
