'Stick It' ProjectThe ‘Stick It’ Project aims to work with year 6 pupils as part of their transition period into secondary education, where they may face negative peer pressure, mix with older peers, as well as deal with the temptation of drugs, alcohol, gangs etc.

The project targets areas of  South Wales where there may be a high number of secondary fires such as bin, car, grass fires etc.  The project involves young people collecting a number of stickers to fill their personal sticker book over a number of weeks.

In order to collect the stickers, they have to take part in certain out of schools hours’ youth activities.  These activities involve a number of Fire Service workshops, building relations with local Fire Fighters and PCSO’s, as well as taking part in activities run in local youth and community centres.

The aims of ‘Stick It’ are, to improve and enhance young peoples’ engagement, communication and familiarisation with the Fire Service, Police, Youth and Community Workers etc. Encourage participation in out of school hour’s activities to help reduce secondary fires in the surrounding area. To break the cycle of young people involved in anti-social behaviour at an earlier age as well as creating a multi agency approach, meeting common goals in regards to working with young people.  Also, to strengthen networking between agencies and young people.

The project is run over a maximum of twelve weeks depending on time of year and activities involved.

The ‘Stick It’ Project has so far worked with a wide variety of partnership agencies such as local housing project, Communities First, Valleys Kids, South Wales Police and many more...
