What we are doing 

Inviting riders to attend an organized Ride Out from identified venues i.e. Fire Stations at Usk, Abergavenny, Merthyr and Maesteg. We will then ride a pre-set route which will take in a mixture of Urban and Rural A and B roads. During the ride we will encounter the Three Principle Types of Hazards, which are: -

  • Physical Hazards: Roundabouts, Junctions, Bends, Hillcrests etc
  • Other Road Users: Their Position and Movement
  • Weather and Road Conditions: Variation of

Before the ride we will look at a small presentation that will cover the three principal types of hazards. Observational skills that will allow you to plan you’re riding and discuss the four principles of safe cornering.

Prior to the Ride Out Ride Right we will also discuss the pre ride checks a rider should perform before each journey.

On returning to the Fire Station, and over refreshments, there will be a short de-brief and evaluation including an opportunity to view previously taken photographs which will identify physical hazards on the pre-planned routes and encourage riders to advance their skills and knowledge, where appropriate, by engaging in further training with organisations such as:
