Some of South Wales’s fittest Firefighters will be testing their physical skills at Bridgend Fire Station tomorrow, in preparation for the UK’s first ever Fittest Firefighter Challenge, due to take place in Cardiff next month. The Fittest Firefighter Challenge is just one element of World Rescue Wales – an event taking place in Cardiff between 9th and 12th July, which will see Firefighters from around the world gathering at the Cardiff International Arena to compete against each other to be the best in the world at rescuing casualties from crashed cars and treating badly injured casualties at the scene of various incidents. Specially developed for World Rescue Wales, The UK’s Fittest Firefighter Challenge has so far attracted entries from more than 60 Firefighters from Fire and Rescue Services around the UK. The event consists of a series of job-related physical tests that are easily achievable in isolation but make for a tough physical challenge when tackled sequentially. The event will be run against the clock with competitors dressed in firefighting kit and wearing breathing apparatus. Tasks in include a tower climb, hose hoist, stair descent, obstacle course, ladder pitch and casualty rescue.
