South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Young Fire Fighters Wanted!

The Young Fire Fighter Scheme is a rewarding and exciting uniformed cadet scheme run by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) for young people living in the South Wales area.

Young Fire Fighters are both male and female, aged between 14 and 18 years old and come from a range of social backgrounds.

Working alongside other cadets and Firefighters the young people will learn many valuable life skills including effective communication with their peers and elders, team working, self confidence and self discipline.

These skills are developed on Stations grounds whilst learning and taking part in Fire and Rescue Service activities such as; basic Firefighting, community safety initiatives, practical scenarios using hydrants, hoses and ladders, and first aid training.

Young Fire Fighters use the completion of these activities to work towards achieving a BTEC in Fire and Rescue Services in the Community Level 2 Award.  This is a two year programme, which will culminate in a graduation ceremony for all the Young Firefighters.

We are looking to recruit Young Fire Fighters for our following branches:-

Abergavenny
Merthyr Tydfil
