South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority announces Chairman

South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority is pleased to announce that Councillor Anthony Ernest, Vale of Glamorgan, has been re-elected as Chairman of South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority for the forthcoming year. He was re-elected to the position at South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority AGM on June 6th along with Councillor Keith Hyde, Cardiff who was re-elected as Vice Chairman of the Authority.

Councillor Ernest said, “I’m incredibly proud to be re-elected to an Authority that I have served on for seven years. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service is a high performing organisation that helps thousands of members of the public every day when exposed to the risks and the dangers that befall many of us during our lives. To continue as the Chairman of such an organisation is a great honour as we take the Service forward in the great work that it does.”

Anthony Ernest commenced his Local Government career in 1974 when he was first elected to Penarth Town Council, he was Mayor in 1980, being re-elected every four years until 1995, resuming in 1999 to present day. He was also Chairman (Mayor) of the Vale of Glamorgan Council in 2000, and Opposition Spokesman on Fire Service matters on the former South Glamorgan County Council from 1993-96.

Also re-elected today were Councillor R. Greenland (Monmouth) as Chairman of South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority Finance, Audit & Performance Management Committee and Councillor C. Mann (Caerphilly) as Vice Chairman. Councillor R. Mckerlich (Cardiff) was re-elected as Chairman of the Human Resources and Equalities Committee and Councillor John Daniels as vice chairman of HR & Equalities.
