The Fire Safety Order came into effect on 1st October 2006 and since then it has been a strategy from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service to seek to inform all community groups about the legislation, how it affects their business and what they particularly need to know. There are several significant areas of change that owners and managers should be aware of if you are in business and employ others, especially if you are the ‘responsible person’ with a duty for the health and safety of others in respect of fire.
The Responsible Person - As the responsible person you must ensure the safety of your employees and any person who may legally come onto your premises or any person not on the premises who may be affected. Where you share responsibility with other responsible persons, (e.g. adjacent premises, Tenant / Landlord or multiple tenancy building) you must co-operate sharing information and collaborating in providing measures.

South Wales Fire & Rescue Service is offering you the opportunity to have a FREE Fire Safety Check in your home, carried out by firefighters from your local fire station. The check takes about 30 minutes and we will provide and install free smoke alarms where necessary. Specialist visits and smoke alarms for people who are hard of hearing are also avavilable
On booking a Home Fire Safety Check local firefighters will arrange convenient time to visit your home and carry out an inspection, looking out for fire hazards. They will give life saving advice on how to identify fire hazards in your home, what do to in the event of a fire in the home, and how to make a fire escape plan.
There is a genuine desire within your Fire and Rescue Service to improve the safety of our older and disabled people within our community and vigorously promote a fire safety message to make sure everyone is and remains safe.
