On Friday 23rd September, at University of Glamorgan fresher’s fair, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service will be launching its very own Facebook and Twitter page.
SWFRS has launched its own Facebook and Twitter page to allow people to engage with their Fire and Rescue Service in a more interactive and accessible way.
During the launch event, and for a week after, visitors to SWFRS Facebook and Twitter pages will also be able to enter into a competition to win an iPad 2. ‘Like’ the SWFRS Facebook page or follow SWFRS on Twitter and complete the quiz on the Facebook page to be entered into the competition.
These new pages means that Facebook and Twitter users across the county will be able to get the latest news, fire and road safety advice, updates on community campaigns and recruitment as well as being able to communicate directly with the Service.
Andy Marles, Chief Fire Officer, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said;
Our Media and Communications team have recognised the increasing popularity of social networking among a growing number of people in South Wales and indeed across the world and feel a presence on Facebook and Twitter will complement the traditional channels of communication that we are already using.
“We want the local communities we serve to be able to engage with us in a way that is more convenient and accessible to them and social networking offers us that opportunity. For us, it is about making sure we are putting the information people want in the places they want it.
“We also hope that using Facebook and Twitter will be a good way for us to talk to some people that may be difficult to reach, as well as engaging with people about specific local issues that are important to them.”
“We know that Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites are used by people of all different demographics and with differing interests. It is hoped that by launching the sites at the University of Glamoragn fresher’s fair we will have access to a large footfall of students from different backgrounds, interests and demographics across South Wales and indeed the globe”.
“In addition to this, their friends and family on Facebook and Twitter will be able to see news, fire and road safety advice, updates on community campaigns and recruitment that are posted onto our sites and be directed to our Service website”.
