Does everyone in your house know what to do if there’s a fire?
Are the smoke alarms working?
Do you close all the doors in the house before going to bed?
These are just some of the considerations Firefighters would like families to take on board during National Family week and could make a huge difference to their lives.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Children’s Education Advisor, Stephanie Murphy will be out and about with families as part of the national week.
She said, “We’ll be talking to parents and children about how they help each other to stay safe at home. Children and adults can panic during a house fire so it would be ideal for families to plan and practise an escape together, so everyone knows what to do. During the week, we will be providing guidance to the families we come into contact with on how to prevent fires in the first place. This is the best way to make sure you never experience a fire at home, or have to use your escape plan for real.”
More information on escape plans can be found on www.southwales-fire.gov.uk and free home fire safety checks can be requested by calling 0800 169 1234. Firefighters will visit your home, help to plan escape routes with your family and fit smoke alarms for free.
