Improvement Plan 2011/2012

‘South Wales Fire and Rescue Service continuing to strive to provide excellent services to all’

Today, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has published its Improvement Plan for 2011/2012, in which we tell you about some of our main achievements between April 2010 and March 2011 and what we plan to do between April 2011 and March 2012, and beyond.

This Improvement Plan for 2011/2012 incorporates our 2012/2013 Risk Reduction Plan which updates the position with regard to the Projects identified as key improvement activities in the 2011/2012 Risk Reduction Plan.

The public have an expectation that public service providers continue to improve the way services are delivered and ensure public money is well spent.  South Wales Fire and Rescue Service are committed to making sure we continue to give the best possible service to make our communities the safest places to live, work and visit.

In the current economic climate we, along with other public sector organisations face unprecedented financial challenges and we will continue to look closely at the way things are done to ensure we provide efficient services, reducing our budget but at the same time ensure we respond quickly to meet the needs of the public and that we continue to visit homes, schools and other venues to provide education and safety advice to ensure the public remain safe.

We have tried to make clear to you the differences that you as a member of our community can see as a result of our activities carried out between April 2010 and March 2011.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Huw Jakeway said;

“Like every other publicly funded body, we must rise to the challenge of a reduction of public expenditure and explore how we can best cope with competing demands on our resources and I am confident that we will be able to rise to the challenges that face us as a publicly funded service.

DCFO Jakeway continued; “We will continue to build upon the successful feedback we have received from the Wales Audit Office, who stated in their Annual Improvement Report ‘that effective leadership and robust corporate arrangements provide a sound foundation for improvement in performance’. In other words, they felt that we are likely to improve things for the people who live in our area because we have sound leadership and are well managed”.

Chairman, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Cllr Anthony Ernest said “South Wales Fire and Rescue Service would like to express their sincere appreciation for all the hard work of our staff, elected members and partners.  The Service is delighted that its performance is still exceptionally high and we aim to build on these high standards to ensure that we will make out communities the safest places to live, work and visit”.
