Firefighter for a day 

On Monday 12th September, Bridgend Fire Station will be holding a Firefighter for a Day event at as a thank you to the children that volunteered as Firewatch pupils at their School (Maesteg Comprehensive School) over the past year.

Martin Donaghue, Station Manager, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said;

“We are extremely proud of all of the pupils that took part in the Firewatch Scheme and want to use this event to both thank the pupils for all their hard work throughout the year and highlight the important role that they play within their school. We hope that they thoroughly enjoy the day.”

FireWatch is a scheme run by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service for Year 8 pupils at Comprehensive Schools. It is an inclusive programme whereby children are given a days instruction on Fire Safety in the school and following an on-site visit by the Station personnel the pupils conduct a weekly fire safety inspection, looking at means of escape, fire extinguishers etc and reporting to a responsible person.
