Jason Evans, Group Manager at South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said:

"A call was received at 12:35pm to a report of a refuse fire at the rear of Crockherbtown Lane, Cardiff.

"South Wales Fire and Rescue Service mobilised a fire appliance from Cardiff Central and arrived on scene within 4 minutes at 12:39pm.

"On arrival the crew identified that the fire had spread to an electrical substation, with the potential to spread to neighbouring properties.

"All nearby premises were evacuated quickly and additional resources were ordered to the scene.

"South Wales Fire and Rescue Service is now working with partner agencies including South Wales Police, Western Power Distribution, representatives from NCP and Glam nightclub on Greyfriars Road to ensure fire hasn't spread to adjoining premises and to bring this incident to a safe and successful conclusion.

"The Services's Fire Investigators are now on scene and working with police to determine the cause of the fire.

"Greyfriars Road is currently closed to all traffic, with local diversions in place."
