The 2012 All Wales Extrication Competition took place at Cardiff Gate Training and Development Centre on June 16th 2012.
Teams from Ebbw Vale, Malpas, Bridgend, Porthcawl, and Aberdare entered the event from SWFRS, with one guest team entering from London Fire and Rescue Service.
This year’s theme for the scenarios was multiple car collisions with limited space to release the casualty from the primary car.
As the teams undertook their respective scenario, the other teams and the sizeable number of spectators took a keen interest in the various methods used to complete the tasks.
The presentation then took place with the runners up given to the team from Aberdare, and the 2012 All Wales Extrication Champions 2012 going to the team from Bridgend. These teams will now represent SWFRS at the British Extrication Competition.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer Andy Thomas said; “I would like to thank all of the teams for taking part in the event, including the two new teams from Ebbw Vale and Malpas and the London team”.
“I would also like to say a special thank you to the UKRO assessors who without their attendance the event could not happen”.
“Many thanks also go to this year’s sponsors of the competition; ‘Pengam Part Mart’ who are the suppliers of our ‘end of life cars’ that are delivered to Fire Stations.
“The aim of this competition is to improve South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) personnel’s skills when dealing with Road Traffic Collisions and it is hoped that the 2013 event will attract more teams from stations within the Service, which will enhance our vision of ‘Making our Communities the safest place to live, work and visit’”. “There was a lot of learning that was taken from these scenarios, some of which can now be cascaded to SWFRS crews who attend training events at Cardiff Gate; this in turn can be added to the tool box of knowledge for personnel attending RTC incidents giving an improved service to our communities”.
