Congratulations Atlantic Dash!

At 07:21 this morning (Friday 20th January) after 45 days, 19 hours and 21 minutes at sea and travelling 2615 nautical miles on Pendovey Swift,  Jamie Windsor and John Haskell finish their journey at the destination of Barbados.

In December 2011, two Firefighters from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) John Haskell and Jamie Windsor embarked on the incredible ‘Atlantic Dash’ challenge – to row nearly 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean.

The duo rowed the entire distance totally unsupported in a ‘Woodvale Pairs’ class boat, that was designed specifically for the race but measures just a mere 7 meters (23.4ft) long and 1.9m (6.3ft) wide.

Huw Jakeway, Acting Chief Fire Officer, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Chairman, South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority, Cllr Anthony Ernest said; “

“This was an incredible and gruelling challenge that has raised a lot of money for some very worth while charities - The Fire Fighters Charity, Breast Cancer Care, Help for Heroes and the WRVS”.

“On behalf of the whole of SWFRS and South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority we would like to say how proud we are of John and Jamie and a big congratulations to them both on an outstanding achievement”.
