All Wales Road Traffic Collision (RTC) Extrication Competition 2012

On Saturday 16th June 2012, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service is hosting the ‘All Wales Road Traffic Collision (RTC) Extrication Competition’ at Cardiff Gate Training Centre, Pontprennau, Cardiff.

This year’s competition consists of five teams from South Wales, one team from Mid and
West Wales, and two guest teams - one from London and the other from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service.

The aim of the competition is that teams from across the country learn best practice from each other in the RTC area, which they can then take back to their services where all Firefighters can benefit from this learning. This can then be used when crews attend RTC’s in their area, therefore improving the service to the public.

Teams are set a scenario involving a vehicle collision which they have 20 minutes to plan and undertake an extrication of a trapped person.

The teams will be judged by professional assessors from the UK Rescue Organisation (UKRO), with the team judged to have carried out the most professional and timely rescue being declared the winners.

The first scenario starts at 0830 hours with the eight teams competing approximately every half hour from there forward. The event itself will finish at approximately 2pm.

This competition is run in accordance with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service aim of ‘making our communities the safest place to live, work and visit’
