Firefighters issued with head cams

Firefighters in Roath have been issued with special heads cam in a bid to reduce the number of attacks they suffer from stone throwing youths.

The headcams have been provided, following several attacks from gangs of youths in the area, who have pelted Firefighters with stones and hurled abuse at them, when they mobilise to incidents.   It’s hoped that the presence of the head cams will either deter this anti social behaviour, or that the footage captured on the camera will help identify the culprits and bring them to justice.

“Firefighters put their lives on the line for their community – they have always had to consider their safety when dealing with a potentially dangerous incident, but now it seems that that they also need to take care of their personal safety resulting from an attack by a member of the community they are trying to protect”, said Adrian Moyse, Roath Fire Station Commander.

“By attaching the head cam to the helmet of some of the fire crews, young people will know they are likely to be recorded attacking our crews who are just trying to do their jobs, and we will have inescapable evidence of anti-social behaviour of these youths, which we will pass on to the Police”, he added.
