Young Firefighters Scheme set up in partnership with Vale Youth Services in November 2004. There are currently 12 Young Firefighters involved in the Scheme, aged 14 – 18 years. There are plans to expand this to 15 Young Firefighters during 2005/06.
The local coastguards are now sited on Station premises with a current manning level of 12 providing cover to the local area.
11 Retained staff
The current Fire Station in Llantwit Major was opened in April 1960. This provides cover to a population of approximately 23,000 people for Llantwit and the surrounding areas. Currently use one Water Ladder (4x4) and a Water Tender used by the Young Firefighters.
