Llantwit Major Fire Station 


Llantwit Major Fire Station is crewed solely by part time workers conditioned to the Retained Duty System of cover. Within the area it serves is the RAF St Athan training camp, light industrial units, village shopping centre, residential estates, and rural farming land.

There is a population of approximately 23,000 people within Llantwit and the surrounding areas.

The site is shared with the Coastguards who have a current crewing level of 12.

  • Schools – KS 1 and KS 2 Fire Safety and KS 4 Road Safety (Domino effect)
  • Home Fire Safety Risk Assessments

Staff at Llantwit supervise the Young Firefighters Scheme set up in partnership with Vale Youth Services in November 2004. There are currently 15 Young Firefighters involved in the Scheme, aged 14 – 18 years.

The Station was opened by Glamorganshire Fire service in April 1960 and underwent a major refurbishment in 2007.
