Ely Fire Station 

Ely Community Fire Station serves the main residential areas of Ely, Cardiff and the surrounding areas of Llandaff North, Canton, Fairwater, Pentrebane and St Fagans.  There are approximately 29,700 domestic properties covering a geographical area of some 5,551 hectares. The estimated population of this area is around 69,000 people.

Ely Community Fire Station joins the ‘Jasmine’ community centre, which offers employment advice and other council services to members of the community.

As well as residential property, Ely Community Fire Station also serves a number of hospitals, schools, halls of residence and a large amount of light industrial areas. Others include the Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans, the shopping centres at Culverhouse Cross and the ITV Wales studios.

’The adjoining Jasmine centre has recently be refurbished and the local authority services it provides have been expanded which will develop the stations links with its partner agencies and the local community.’

Your local FireFighters from Ely Community Fire Station responded to 1441 calls in the year of April 2013- March 2014. These include, Road Traffic Collisions, Vehicle fires, Property fires and Miscellaneous rescues’    The dedication of your local crews ensured all incidents where dealt with professionally at all times.  In-addition to responding to calls, your local fire fighters visited 509 homes where free smoke alarms were fitted and advice given to all members of our community.  Your Fire Fighters ‘conducted 72 school visits and spoke to 32 community groups,’ educating our children to the dangers of fire.  The tremendous effort of the fire fighters has ensured a steady decline in accidental domestic property fires over recent years, and crews will work with our communities to ensure everyone has equal access to our free education and smoke alarms service, to ensure this downward trend continues and all people in our communities are safe from fire.

Community Initiatives

  • Community Fire Station visits to dwellings identified as high risk.
  • Community Fire Safety visits to schools in these areas.
  • Partnership working with police and Fire Crime Unit Officers to identify known fire setters.
  • Liaise with Fire Crime Unit Officers to educate local business.
  • Local groups use of station resources, and meeting room.


    39 uniformed staff comprising 4 Watches.

    These are divided as follows-

    • 10 staff on Red watch
    • 10 staff on white watch
    • 9 staff on Green watch
    • 9 staff on Blue watch
    • 1 station commander.
