Cowbridge Fire Station 

Cowbridge Fire Station serves the market town of Cowbridge and many surrounding villages including Llanblethian, Colwinston, St Mary Church, Llandow, Aberthin and St Hilary. The estimated population of the Station area is 8,000 people.

Much of the approximate 34 square miles covered by Cowbridge Fire Station is dedicated to rural farmland, as well as a large light industrial estate on the former airfield at Llandow and the very busy A48 by-pass.

Staff

Cowbridge Fire Station is a Wholetime day staffed station providing 24-hour cover consisting of 9 hours Wholetime duty at the Fire Station and 15 hours on calls retained duty. This is achieved by 2 shifts each having 7 Firefighters and each shift working 96 hours ensuring cover for 365 days a year.

The station has recently recruited a number of Retained Duty System staff as part of the ongoing change of working patterns utilised at the station.

History

Station opened 9th May 1960 as ‘nucleus manned’, became Wholetime in June 1975 and became Day Crewed in May 1993.
