Fire Stations

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) provides emergency cover and prevention services to a wide geographical area.  This ranges from Chepstow in the East, to Porthcawl in the West and from Abergavenny in the North down to the coast.

To achieve this the Service has 49 Stations crewed in a variety of ways.

29 are crewed solely by Retained Duty System (RDS) Firefighters.  These Firefighters live and work within five minutes of their local Fire Station and are called in to respond to incidents, when required, ensuring an appliance is always available.

11 of the Stations are continuously crewed by Wholetime Firefighters who ensure there is a fire appliance immediately available at all times.
Additionally, there are a further 9 Stations who have both Wholetime and RDS Firefighters providing crewing for their appliances.

All our Firefighters are equipped and trained to the same standard, regardless of duty system and the decision on how to crew our Stations is based on a risk assessment of the area.

SWFRS pledge to give the best possible emergency service to their community using the resources available.
