Maindee Fire Station serves the communities on the eastern side of Newport including Ringland, Alway and Somerton.

Many industrial premises are located within the Station area, including the chemical site Solutia, gas cylinder supplier Flogas and several major hotels.

Community Initiatives

• Campaign in known areas highlighting the dangers of car arson. Undertake Community Fire Safety visits to schools in these areas.
• Use of Fire service emergency cover analysis data to identify high risk areas/dwellings. Community Fire Safety visits to dwellings identifies as ‘high’ risk.
• Identification of and working with partners in local community to identify preventative measures.

41 uniformed staff comprising 4 Watches of 10 (Red, Blue, Green and White) and a Station Manager.

History

Maindee Fire Station was built in the late 1950s and officially opened in 1960.  It was built on a site that was bombed during the Second World War and a plaque was unveiled in 2002 to mark this occasion.
