Vacancies for Watch Manager ‘B’ posts–In the Operations Department of the Service Delivery Directorate.

 

Due to a number of vacancies arising in the Operations Department, it is necessary to create a list of personnel who are eligible for promotion, during the forthcoming year to the role of Watch Manager ‘B’ Wholetime (Watch based). 

Applications are therefore invited from interested personnel who are able to demonstrate experience in watch management and meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Wholetime and RDS Firefighters who hold a current pass at either the South Wales Fire & Rescue Service Supervisory Management Assessment Development Centre or the National Supervisory  Management Assessment Development Centre with a score set at a level that is in accordance with the national toolkit. 
  • Existing RDS Crew Managers, Watch Managers who hold a current pass at either the South Wales Fire & Rescue Service Supervisory  Management Assessment Development Centre or the National Supervisory  Management Assessment Development Centre with a score set at a level that is in accordance with the national toolkit
  • Existing Wholetime Crew Managers and Watch Manager ‘A’s
  • Existing Wholetime Watch Manager ‘B’s

 

Please note that if you have not yet successfully completed both modules of the Supervisory Command Training Course by the date of the Role Specific Selection Process (RSSP), you will be required to successfully complete this course in order to take up a permanent appointment, if successful.

As part of your application you must provide confirmation of where and when you sat your Supervisory Managers ADC. Candidates who completed an ADC outside South Wales are required to submit the “Overall Performance Summary” for verification against the national standards.

Appointment will be by means of a Role Specific Selection Process (RSSP), set against the job description and person specification for the posts. This process will be used to produce a list of personnel for promotion during the forthcoming year.   Personnel who are successful at the RSSP will also be given priority for temporary promotion during the forthcoming year, however due to differences in contractual arrangements successful RDS personnel will not be able to undertake temporary promotion in WDS positions.

The application pack will include a copy of the job description and person specification along with a proforma used to identify the stations being applied for. Candidates will be required to complete and return the application form in no more than 250 words for each of the 8 ‘essential criteria’ and 1’desirable criteria’.  Any candidate who fails to adhere to this limit will be deemed to be unsuccessful. 

The criteria submission may be hand written directly onto the application or word processed and attached to the original application form.  Please ensure each attached page has your name entered as a header and the word count is specified at the bottom of each criteria.
