Retained Duty System Appointments - Terms and Conditions 

Salary
Offers of appointment are made within the agreed salary banding for the role. You will be appointed at the development rate of pay and upon satisfactory progression will receive the competent rate of pay. Salaries are paid monthly by Direct Bank Credit Transfer on the 15th day of the month.

Salary Scale ranges from £3,622.50 to £15,390.00
 
Hours of Work
The full working week is 42 to 84 hours per week, which comprises a combination of drill sessions, Community Safety and on-call cover.

Probation
New employees are subject to the satisfactory completion of a six month probation period. During this period you will be expected to establish your suitability for the post.

Holidays
Annual leave entitlement is up to five weeks
In addition to annual leave Retained staff are entitled to eight statutory holidays per year.

Pension
All new employees are automatically admitted to the Firefighters Pension Scheme (New), which provides ill health and retirement benefits. Employees can opt out of the scheme, and full details are given on appointment.

Trade Union Membership
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service fully supports the system of collective bargaining, believes in the principle of solving industrial relations problems by discussion and agreement, and recognises the rights of individuals to belong to appropriate trades unions.
 
Car Parking
Parking is available at all Fire and Rescue Service premises.

Uniform
All employees will be issued with appropriate and approved Uniform and Personal Protective Clothing in order for them to carry out their duties.

Gym Facilities
We have free on-site gym facilities at most locations.
