Hi my name is Deborah and I work as a Human Resources Officer within the Recruitment and Assessment Team in South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
I began learning Welsh on a part time basis in 2004, through a mixture of SWFRS and College classes and also weekend courses. I had always wanted to speak my Native Language and my goal was to be able to communicate bilingually in the workplace. I worked my way through a series of qualifications and attained my A’ Level in Welsh Language in 2010.
Since then I have been using my Welsh within my role for the SWFRS Recruitment and Assessment Team. On a day-to day basis I communicate with colleagues, candidates and external organisations in person, over the phone and by e-mail. I use Welsh when editing and creating documents, assist colleagues with queries regarding Welsh and also represent SWFRS at external events.
Welsh is an ongoing interest for me, I hope to continue using my Welsh and attend courses to refresh my knowledge, there’s no doubt about it Learning Welsh is a lot of fun!!
