Welcome to the Legislative Fire Safety web page.  This area of the site contains an overview of the work that we do in connection with our role of ensuring a safe environment for all, in non-domestic premises.  South Wales Fire & Rescue Service is committed to protecting our communities and reducing deaths and injuries from fires and other emergency situations.

The Legislative Fire Safety Department enforces the provisions of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, a piece of legislation which applies to virtually any place other than domestic premises.  This legislation is commonly known as The Fire Safety Order and places the duty for ensuring a safe property with the Responsible Person for the premises.  The Department has a programme for auditing all non-domestic premises in the South Wales area, based on the level of fire risk that each property presents.
 
Within this area of the site you will find a range of information and links to guidance which has been published in order to assist Responsible Persons in complying with the legislation.
Fires in non-domestic premises not only have the potential to do harm to their occupants but also have a devastating effect on business.  In fact, a lot of businesses never completely recover – orders and contracts may be lost and key employees have to seek work elsewhere.  This consequential loss of services and employment opportunities in the community can be significant. We are keen to work with business owners to make their company fire safe: for the benefit of themselves, their workforce and the communities within which they operate.
