Consequences

Do you know what your child will be doing today

Riding their bike, visiting the local youth club, going to the cinema, bowling with friends? … Or will they be deliberately lighting a grass or mountain fire?

As part of the enforcement initiatives of the ‘Bernie’ project, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service will be working together with the Police in your area to ensure that if your child is caught deliberately setting a grass or mountain fire then they may be prosecuted

Face the consequences:

  • A two year imprisonment and/or £5000 fine for a person that is caught and prosecuted
  • Puts lives at risk as Firefighters could be diverted from attending a real emergency someone trapped in a house fire or a crashed car
  • It puts Firefighters at needless risk of injury while fighting the fire.
  • Annually costs the taxpayer thousands  of pounds
  • Negatively impacts on the local community, environment and the wildlife
