Performance

Performance information is used to improve the day-to-day operation of services across South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.  We monitor a range of performance indicators, some of which are statutorily set by the National Assembly for Wales and some of which we have set locally: -

Strategic Indicators
These are a statutory requirement, under the Wales Programme for Improvement and are set by the National Assembly for Wales.  These indicators are subject to external audit.

Core Indicators
The National Assembly for Wales also sets these.  Core indicators are to provide a fuller, more rounded picture of performance.

Local Indicators
These are set by individual departments or directorates to reflect their local priorities.

We use our performance indicator management system (OWLE) to monitor our performance.  This system contains all the information relating to our performance indicators including current and past performance and the targets that we strive to achieve.  This system is available to all staff of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, however this is not available publicly.

On a quarterly and annual basis we report our performance against our statutory indicators to our Directors and our Fire Authority Members.  Each directorate is responsible for reporting on the activities that they are undertaking to achieve the set target and any remedial action required where performance is below the anticipated target.  Our Performance Management Unit collates and submits this report.
