Are you aged between 13 and 17 and ready to make a difference?
Fire cadets can provide you with an insight into working within a uniformed service. As well as an exciting and unique opportunity to develop both personal and social skills by promoting self-discipline, team work and citizenship.
As a cadet you will have the opportunity to learn the basic skills of a firefighter while participating in a wide range of activities in and around your local Fire Cadet Branch. Cadets also have the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications and awards.

What is life like as a Fire Cadet?
As a fire cadet you will be treated as a young trainee firefighter. You will be provided with your own uniform and fire kit which you will need to take good care of, you will be expected to regularly attend a weekly drill night at your fire cadet branch.
As well as learning many of the skills of a firefighter you will also see the work of other departments within the fire and rescue service and work towards a number of awards while having fun and making new friends. We encourage Fire Cadets to take part in charity events and to support events in the local community. You will be expected to show a certain amount of discipline and commitment, just like a real Firefighter.
Life as a Cadet - it's not all work and no play
In addition to weekly activities at your local branch there are many other opportunities such as outdoor activities, camps, competitions and social trips. Many of our cadet groups play an important role in the community with cadets helping fit smoke alarms and supporting other local initiatives.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Fire Cadets have travelled abroad to communities in Germany and Serbia, taking part in competitions and charity projects.
