Fire Control

Fire Control is a key part of the fire and rescue service as it is the first point of contact for members of the public in the case of an emergency.  This means that the people who work as part of the Fire Control team, help to save lives on a daily basis.

Fire Control team members are highly skilled and are trained to take emergency 999 calls from members of the public, other emergency services such as the police and ambulance, and agencies such as fire alarm companies.  They also mobilise and control the fire appliances that are sent to different types of emergencies.  Because Fire Control can be a very busy place, the people who work there have to be able to think and react quickly, relay instructions accurately and operate a range of sophisticated computerised equipment.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Fire Control is based in Pontyclun and is staffed 7 days a week, 24 hours a day by four different teams, or watches, who work a variety of shift patterns.
